The painting depicts a man writing a chronicle, on the sheet in Russian is written Igoriad, as The Lay of the Warfare waged by Igor is sometimes called, an ancient Russian poem about Prince Igors campaign against the Polovtsians in the 12 century. In the background of the picture, are depicted the helmet, weapons, and shield of an ancient Russian warrior, as well as an icon and a scene of the battle of St. George the Victorious with the serpent. The artists signature, date, and title of artwork are on the reverse side. Framed.
