ANCIENT GOLD GREEK DECORATION KELENDERIAN GOAT
Ancient Greek 22K gold sheet decoration or applique, hand hammered with a relief image depicts a graceful kneeling goat with its head turned back right. With 4 holes on the sides. Such items were worn sewn onto clothing, or attached to an elaborate headdress. Circa 450 to 400 BC. The image of a goat was the symbol of the city of Kelenderis, which was founded by Phoenician settlers in the 8th century BC, and in the 5th century BC and became a prosperous Greek city.
