CHINESE INK AND COLOR PAINTING ON SILK BY QI BAISHI
Qi Baishi, Chinese, 1864 to 1957, ink and color painting on paper laid on silk scroll depicting a cast of mitten crabs scuttling about. Crab may resemble beneficial business, prosperity, or elevated social status. Each crab is uniquely painted with varying shades of ink. Inscribed with Calligraphy and a red seal, to the right. A red seal, lower left. Qi Baishi was a Chinese painter, noted for the whimsical, often playful style of his works. Qi Baishi is known for his imaginative and care-free approach to traditional Chinese painting which is most likely a product of starting as a self-taught artist. He was influenced by notable masters such as Bada Shanren and Xu Wei both from the Qing and Ming Dynasties respectively. The subjects of his paintings include almost everything, commonly animals, scenery, figures, toys, vegetables. Antique Asian and Oriental Art Masters Paintings on Silk Scrolls, Wall Art, and Collectibles. One of a kind artwork.
