ITALIAN FLORA ETCHING BY BARTOLOZZI AFTER GUERCINO
Francesco Bartolozzi, Italian, active England, 1727 to 1815, etching on paper, Flora, with a Boy, after the original by Giovanni Francesco Barbieri, called Guercino, Italian, 1591 to 1666. the engraving depicts Flora seated, center, facing right, a putti hands her a bouquet while she waves another in her left hand. Inscribed in the print, lower right and left. Framed. Giovanni Francesco Barbieri, better known as Guercino, was an Italian Baroque painter and draftsman from Cento in the Emilia region, who was active in Rome and Bologna. The vigorous naturalism of his early manner contrasts with the classical equilibrium of his later works. His many drawings are noted for their luminosity and lively style.
