LTD RUSSIAN LITHOGRAPH BY MIHAIL CHEMIAKIN SIGNED
Mihail Chemiakin, Russian Soviet, born 1943, a limited edition color lithograph on Arches paper depicting a genre scene from the series Carnivals of St. Petersburg. Circa: late 1970s. Signed in pencil, lower right. Inscribed in pencil, Artist proof, lower left. Carnivals of St. Petersburg is a series of works that picks up the Russian carnival tradition, rooted in the history of Ancient Rus in particular, the artist often refers to the theme and traditions of Russian lubok. The master often embodies the images of buffoons, street dancers, jesters, merchants, circus performers and singers. Mihail Mikhailovich Chemiakin or Shemyakin is a Russian painter, stage designer, sculptor, and publisher, and a controversial representative of the nonconformist art tradition of St. Petersburg.
