ANCIENT SASSANIAN EMPIRE CARVED CARNELIAN SEAL
A fine ancient carnelian stone stamp seal dating back to the Sassanian Empire period, ca. 2nd to 5th century CE. Decorated with a carved motif to the flat side of the seal depicting a winged male figure walking right and possibly representing an angel. The stone is horizontally pierced for suspension. The Sasanian Empire, known as Land Of The Iranians was the last Iranian empire before the Muslim conquests of the 7th and 8th century AD. It existed from 224 to 651 AD, making the House of Sasan the longest ruling Persian imperial dynasty. The Sasanian Empire followed the Parthian Empire and established the Persians as an ancient superpower and the rivals of the Roman and the Byzantine Empires. The Sasanian rule is considered to be a pinnacle of ancient Iranian history and culture before the Islamization of Iran.
