Sergei Vasilyevich Maljutin was a Russian and Soviet painter, graphic artist, book illustrator of the Art Nouveau and neo style periods, architect, interior decorator, theater artist. He is also known as the author of the painting of the first Russian nesting doll and an apologist for the a la russe style in art, the creator of his own fabulous Malyutinsky version of Art Nouveau, based on a special interpretation of ancient Russian motifs. In his work, the desire to bring painting, applied art and architecture closer together, to blur the clear boundaries between them, and to their mutual enrichment was especially clearly manifested.
