ANTIQUE SILVER WAX JACK OF EUROPEAN ORIGIN C 1890
An antique silver wax jack of European origin. Presumably British, circa 1889-1900. The shape resembles a goblet with a removable lid and handle, inside of which there is wax wound on a wire on a vertical rod. The top end protrudes through a hole in a pan that has a pincer to hold the taper in place. Silver Hallmarks. On a stable stand. Wax Jack is a device used to hold a taper of sealing wax intended to create sealing of documents. Were widespread and often used in Europe starting in the 18th century.
