MIKHAIL TKACHENKO RUSSIAN UKRAINIAN OIL PAINTING
Michail Tkatchenko, Russian, Ukrainian, 1860 to 1916, an antique oil on wood panel painting depicting a forest landscape. Signed in Cyrillic lower right. Note: Mikhail Stepanovich Tkachenko was a Ukrainian painter and graphic artist, master of landscape painting and marine painter. He received his primary art education under the guidance of the painter D.I. Bezperchoy. Then, in 1879, he entered the Imperial Academy of Arts as a volunteer (from 1879) and a student (1882-1887). At the Academy of Arts he was a student of such masters as P. Chistyakov, M. Klodt, V. Orlovsky. During his studies he was awarded by medals. Then Tkachenko continued his studies in France, at the F. Cormon Art Academy. He graduated from the Academy with the title of 1st degree artist. M. S. Tkachenkos canvases were presented at the Paris World Exhibition in 1900 and at presentations at the Paris Salon in the 1911-1912 season. Mikhail Tkachenko was one of the main marine painters of the Russian Empire. He fulfilled imperial orders and created large marinas for important government gifts. Most of them are concentrated in state collections in France, some are kept in the Central Naval Museum in St. Petersburg. The artists works are kept in the National Art Museum of Ukraine, and museum collections in Kharkiv, Lviv and other cities. One of a kind artwork.
