ANTIQUE 18TH C JAPANESE EDO PERIOD WOODBLOCK PRINT - An antique Japanese Edo period engraving in the Ukiyo e style, early edition, dates from the 18th century. This engraving shows a richly dressed artist in long robes painting huge flowers. Behind the artist is a boy with a dish, probably drawing supplies. There is an inscription in Japanese at the top right. Provenance: from the collection of Dr. Horacio Fabrega, Pittsburgh, PA. Ukiyo e is a genre of Japanese art that flourished from the 17th through 19th centuries. Its artists produced woodblock prints. The term ukiyo e translates as picture of the floating world.
