This photograph captures a historic moment in Soviet space exploration and politics during the 1960s and 1970s. Georgy Beregovoy was a Soviet cosmonaut who flew in space in 1968, becoming the oldest person at the time to go into space. Leonid Brezhnev served as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union during a significant portion of the Cold War. Nikolai Podgorny was a prominent political figure in the Soviet Union, serving as Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet.
