JAPANESE MEIJI ERA SHIMAZU SATSUMA POTTERY DECOR

A lot of antique Japanese Satsuma pottery ware. Late Meiji era, before 1912. A total of 4 items, hand-painted and gilded. Two miniature vases with floral decor on wooden stands, both marked Hododa on the bottom. A vase with a multi-figure scene depicting Japanese women against a landscape background, hand-signed on the bottom. A lidded hexagonal jar with decorative handles, with the Arhat saints on the recto side and geishas on the verso side, hallmark with Shimazu family crest is on the bottom. Satsuma ware is a type of Japanese pottery which originated in Satsuma Province, since the 19th century it was mainly produced for Western export and therefore elaborately decorated.
