ANTIQUE JAPANESE CARVED NUT PIT SEED NETSUKE
An antique Japanese Meiji period netsuke carved from a nut pit seed, a hard and dense material that lends itself well to fine and detailed carving. Netsuke is a small, intricately carved sculpture that was traditionally used in Japan as a toggle to secure a pouch or container to a kimono sash. The skilled carver used various traditional tools to create the intricate design on the small surface of the nut pit seed, bringing to life various subjects such as mythical creatures, animals, folklore characters, and scenes from daily life. Circa the early 20th century. Antique Japanese Carved Sculptures For Collectors.
