ANTIQUE CHINESE POLYCHROME EARTHENWARE GUANYIN FIGURE
An antique Chinese, Late Qing dynasty, polychrome glazed earthenware sculpture. The artwork represents a seated figure of Guanyin, a character of Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, and Japanese mythology, a bodhisattva or a deity who appears mainly in a female form, saving people from all sorts of disasters. She is dressed in flowing robes in a gold shade, and probably holding a scroll. The hair, eyes, and eyebrows are covered with glaze in a black shade. The sculpture is adorned with hand painted floral and cloud ornaments. Unmarked. Circa: late 19th century to early 20th century.
