SURREAL GREEK PENCIL PAINTING BY STAVROS PAPASAVVAS
Stavros Papasavvas, Greek, born 1928, pencil painting on paper depicting a Surreal double portrait, 1962. Signed and dated lower right. Framed. Stavros Papasavvas was born in Greece in 1928. He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Athens from 1947 - 1952, where he won first prize sculpture portrait. In 1953, he attended the School of Fine Arts in Paris. He obtained French citizenship. He has lived in Sweden, then in the US, in Boston in 1962, where he taught sculpture, School of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Essentially shares his time between France, Switzerland and Greece. Member of EETE. He deals with a wide range of visual reflections showing as the starting point of creation, purpose and destination archetype. In sculpture and painting in mixed media works the operative power of the archetype appears in expanded human tumor resembling a primitive sources of fertility, integration, sulfur, as well as the sculpture of P. Picasso. One of a kind artwork.
