An antique oil painting on canvas mounted on board depicting Pocahontas, after the original artwork, The Chiefs Daughter, 1847, by John Gadsby Chapman, 1808 to 1889. Unsigned. John Gadsby Chapman was an American artist famous for Baptism of Pocahontas, which was commissioned by the United States Congress and hangs in the United States Capitol rotunda. She was the daughter of Powhatan, the paramount chief of a network of tributary tribes in the Tsenacommacah, encompassing the Tidewater region of what is today the U.S. state Virginia. One of a kind artwork.
