ANTIQUE ENGLISH SHAKESPEARE THEATRE ETCHINGS
An antique British etching with engraving print titled Romeo and Juliet, Act IV, Scene V from the series Shakespeare Gallery. Depicts a man laying the seeming dead Juliet out on a bed, as the friar gestures to heaven, trying to comfort her mother, who approaches clasping her hands together. The print was made by Johann Gottlieb Facius, after John Opie and published by John Boydell in the early 19th century. The lot also contains three antique theatre engraving prints depicting Fanny Cooper, as Helena, in Shakespeares Midsummer Nights Dream, an illustration to Drawing Room Table Book by Tallis, 1851, Madame Saqui, Marguerite Antoinette Lalanne, 1786 to1866, titled Tight Rope Walker, the celebrated Performer on the Rope at Vauxhall by John Alais, 1792 to 1820, Mr H. Marston as Marc Antony, Act III Scene 2, in Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, 1564 to 1616, published by John Tallis, 1850. All matted and framed.
