ANTIQUE 19TH C EUROPEAN FIGURAL PORCELAIN INKWELL
A mid 19th century Continental figural porcelain inkwell, modeled as a shepherdess in bonnet and apron with two dogs. Finely detailed, hand painted and highlighted with gilding. The slip-on lid lifts to reveal ink and sand cups. Marked with numbers 2, 24 and inscribed underside Rro in brown underglaze. Possibly made by Miklashevsky manufactory, circa 1840. Miklashevsky's porcelain factory was founded in 1830 in the village of Volokitino, Glukhovsky district, Chernihiv province, in the area of deposits of the best porcelain clays in Russia. In 1839, at the exhibition, the Volokitensky manufactory received the Big Silver Medal For the Art of the Best Porcelain Items.
