An antique Eastern Roman Empire Byzantine bronze belt buckle with a semi round decorated plaque displayed as the buckles tongue. The original pin and hinge mechanism are intact. This type of buckles both serves a practical and functional purpose, yet also decorates and adorned the very garments they are meant to hold in place. Circa the 5th century AD.
