An antique 18th-century Russian Orthodox icon depicting the Dormition of the Mother of God. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board with kovcheg. Gilt details. Titled in Church Slavonic on the top. The Dormition is a Great Feast of the Orthodox Churches that celebrates the death of Virgin Mary and her being taken up into heaven.
