SCULPTURE SLEEPING MUSE AFTER CONSTANTIN BRANCUSI
After Constantin Brancusi, Romanian, 1876 to 1957, gilt bronze sculpture titled Sleeping Muse. Singed to the back. Made after a 1909 marble sculpture for which Baroness Renee Irana Franchon was the model. Circa the mid 20th century. Constantin Brancusi was a sculptor, painter and photographer who made his career in France. Brancusi is called the patriarch of modern sculpture. The subject of a sleeping head occupied Brancusi for almost twenty years. In conceiving and executing Sleeping Muse, the sculptor eschewed drama and detail in favor of reducing ideas to fundamental forms and simplified details. Modernist European Sculptures For Collectors.
