ANTIQUE RUSSIAN ICON VIRGIN OF THE BURNING BUSH - An antique 18th-century Russian Orthodox icon, Mother of God with Christ Child in the Burning bush iconography. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board with kovcheg. The central image of Vrigin Mary and Jesus is enclosed in an eight-pointed star formed by two quadrangles in green and red. Images of four Old Testament scenes are depicted in the corners: Moses in front of the Bush, the dream of Jacob, the Gate of Ezekiel and the Tree of Jesse. The characters are named in Church Slavonic. This allegorical iconography was formed in Orthodox tradition in the 16th century. Russian Religious Items and Antique Collectables.
