ANTIQUE 19TH C RUSSIAN SILVER MOTHER OF GOD ICON - An antique mid 19th century Russian icon of Mother of God of Kazan, hand painted in tempera on a wood panel with a silver gilt oklad bejeweled in fiery faceted glass crystal gems. The Mother of God is depicted with her head bowed to the Child. The Christ Child is shown from the front, the right hand is extended in a blessing gesture with two fingers. The back of the board is lined with a blue velvet. Marked with an 84 Imperial Russian silver standard. George the Victorious for Moscow, an assay mark of Andrey Antonovich Kovalsky dated 1856, and the Cyrillic makers mark: FS.
