ANTIQUE 1884 MAJOR GENERAL WINFIELD SCOTT MEDAL
An antique American 19th century bronze Winfield Scott Congressional Bronze Medal. The obverse features a left facing bust of Scott inscribed with an inscription: Major General Winfield Scott, on a ribbon above, and: Resolution of Congress March 9 1848, below. The reverse features six medallions depicting Mexican American War battlefields around a central image of Mexico City. Winfield Scott, 1786 to 1866, was an American military commander and political candidate. He served as a general in the United States Army from 1814 to 1861, taking part in the War of 1812, the Mexican–American War, the early stages of the American Civil War and conflicts with Native Americans.
