ANTIQUE 18TH CENT RUSSIAN ICON VIRGIN OF VLADIMIR - An antique 18th-century Russian Orthodox icon. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board. Gilt rims, cinnabar color palette. The icon depicts Virgin Mary with Christ Child in the Vladimir Mother of God iconography. Vladimirskaya icon is a 12th-century Byzantine icon, an early example of the Eleusa iconographic type and one of the most culturally significant pieces of art in Russian history. Inscriptions Mother of God, Jesus Christ, Merciful Holiest Mother of God in Church Slavonic are in the upper part of the icon. Antique Russian Religious Items and Collectibles.
