BRONZE FIGURE FLYING MERCURY BY GIOVANNI BOLOGNA
A patinated bronze figure of flying Mercury by Giovanni Bologna or Giambologna, Italian, Flemish, 1529 to 1608. One of the most well known statues from the Renaissance era, this Mercury statue is a copy of a celebrated design by Giambologna created around 1564. Giambologna designed this statue as part of a fountain for the Medici in the Villa Medici in Rome. Mercury was a messenger and a god of trade, profit, and commerce. Mounted on a column shaped stand.
