1939 NEW YORK WORLDS FAIR GUTENBERG PRESS PRINT
A mid-century color print in the style of a medieval manuscript. The text of the Sermon on the Mount from the Gospel of Matthew set in the Donat type, the first known movable type, with hand-painted decorations with gilding. The text was printed on a replica of the Gutenberg press in celebration of 500 years of printing at the New York World's Fair. The 1939 New York World's Fair themed Dawn of a New Day was held in Queens and was the second-most expensive American world's fair of all time. The fair was closed earlier due to the beginning of the World War II. Johannes Gutenberg, 1400-1468, was a German publisher who invented the movable-type printing press that started the Printing Revolution in Europe. Ars Minor, a schoolbook on Latin grammar by Aelius Donatus, was one of the first books printed by Gutenberg. Ciconia watermark. Black frame. Historical Collectables, Wall Art Prints.
Dimensions: 19 5/8 x 13 1/4 in. All measurements are approximate.
