ANTIQUE ENGRAVINGS AFTER HORSLEY AND METZMACHER

A set of two antique book illustration etching and engraving prints. One is after John Callcott Horsley depicting a 17th century scene with a young man bowing as he enters a room in which three women are making wreaths, a servant at the door behind at left raises a sheet to her mouth in surprise. Made by Lumb Stocks and published by Virtue & Co, circa 1868-1873. The other is after Emile Pierre Metzmacher featuring a gentleman leaning over a high wall under a cherry tree, preparing to drop cherries in the apron of a young woman, standing inside the wall; a woman seated beside her on a bank, gathering cherries in her straw hat; after Émile Pierre Metzmacher. The print is made by Peter Lightfoot and published by Virtue & Co in 1886. All framed. John Callcott Horsley (1817-1903) was a painter, etcher, and draughtsman on wood.
