The lot includes:1. An official letter from President Andrew Johnson, (17th President of the United States of America from 1865 to 1869), awarding the rank of First Lieutenant to Jared A. Smith. August 9, 1866. Signed by the President at the lower right, and handwritten annotations at the top right.2. An antique master's diploma from the College of St. John conferring on George Seeley Smith in June 1894. Diploma in Latin, partially completed by hand. With a red paper stamp.
