Antique 19th Century Whig Rose Variation Quilt - Antique 19th Century Whig Rose Variation Quilt measuring 74”x74”. It was found in New Jersey. Four 25” blocks featuring Whig Rose center with 8 branching tulips, two to a stem. The blocks are sashed and separated by a triple border of red-green-red, and design field is bordered by a 10” white border and pink replacement binding over green cording and a white back. Pattern fabrics are light red, gold, green, and a white shirting with pink dots. The quilting is each block outlines figure and is clamshell is in two opposite corners, a 4-heart figure, and a tightly quilted feather wreath with open center. The remaining background in each block is a 1” diagonal lines. The inner frame around the design field is quilted 1” diamond lattice, and the white outer border is edged in single clamshell on each edge, with fiddlehead fern figures repeating all around. It is in fair condition with overall tonining, dark spots, abraiding in the turkey red fabric, and a large rust stain along back. There is also fabric split in a border. This quilt was generously donated by Xenia Cord of Legacy Quilts.
