NORDERNEY ”NOTGELD” NOTE WITH STARS OF DAVID - Rare ”notgeld” 50 pfennig note, a piece of emergency currency issued by ”Hoffmanns Hotel” on the North Sea resort island of Nordeney. The 3.5 x 2.5 in. note, issued in 1922 and picturing the hotel, bears two Stars of David in opposite corners on recto, and a promotional poem on verso. Fine. Clearly, the hotel (and indeed the entire resort area) catered to Jews who had been banished from the nearby seaside resort of Borkum which advertised itself as being ”Jew-free”. Fine.
