Bidspirit auction | GERMAN ANTI-SEMITIC RESORT POSTCARD
GERMAN ANTI-SEMITIC RESORT POSTCARD - Postcard from the German seaside resort of Borkum, a notoriously anti-Semitic resort which prided itself on excluding Jews and widely advertised the fact. The color image shows a caricature of a large and wealthy Jewish family being ordered away from the ”Hotel on the Beach” by a bearded bellman as a woman with a parasol looks on. The caption reads: ”JEWS are not tolerated here!” A poem of sorts at right ”explains”, and concludes: ”...and the Cohn comes with his mom, He has to go out, he has to go out!...let Rosenthal and Levinsohn all go to Norderney! Because it's lovely on your beach...” Norderney was one of the few resorts left available for access to Jews. Excessively rare.
