GERMAN ANTI-SEMITIC SHOOTING TARGET - Repugnant early German anti-Semitic shooting target. The target is a 17 in. diameter hand-colored caricature of a grinning orthodox Jew with forelocks, top hat, huge hands, ragged clothes, and clown-like shoes, typical of anti-Semitic images of the early 1900s. The figure's lower torso is comprised entirely of a target of concentric rings and a bull's eye. At right appears a mocking caption: ”Stehender Adler”, literally ”Standing Eagle”, but ”Adler” more often used to denote something of Jewish origin. The image is signed in the plate at bottom: ”Egon 1903”. The image is mounted to a 19 in. diameter circular board painted green with a hook on the reverse, the soiling and wear on the paint commensurate with the age of the image. The image itself is very worn and stained at upper-right, which has done little to detract from its awful message.
