LATVIAN ”AGUDATH ISRAEL” PUPIL OR SUPPORTER'S STICKPIN - Rare pin issued to a supporter or pupil (unclear) of the ”Agudath Israel”, the political arm of Ashkenazi Torah Judaism which was established at Kattowitz (Katowice) in 1912. The head of the stickpin measure 7/8 in. wide and depicts at Torah(?) and sunbeams, all surrounded by Hebrew text. The pin on reverse measures 1.5 in. long. The aim of Agudath Israel was to strengthen Orthodox institutions independent of the Zionist movement and Mizrachi organization. It survived World War II and continues its works today. This particular example was discovered by a German historian in Latvia in 1996.
