UNION SOLDIER'S LADDER BADGE AND INDIAN WAR MEDAL - Great grouping of four items belonging to an unknown Civil War veteran, who also had fought in the Indian Wars. The grouping includes: Union soldier's five-bar ladder badge, nickel-silver construction, denoting involvement in both the 72nd and 120th New York Volunteer Infantry. Some verdigris, likely remedied with a good cleaning, else very good. Civil War-date ladder badges are already quite scarce, and badges listing two different regiments are even scarcer! WITH: Indian Campaign Medal, 1.25 in. dia., as was retroactively awarded to any U.S. soldier who participated in the wars against the Native Americans between 1865 and 1891. The bottom rim bears the serial number: 'No304'. Fine condition, with original ribbon. Fine condition, with original ribbon. WITH: Black G.A.R. ribbon, 2.5 x 7.5 in., memorializing one 'Ben Marvin...Post, No.209' and bearing the town 'Walton, N.Y.' at bottom. The bottom bears 2 in. fringe, and the top bears a weathered depiction of a handshake. Very good. WITH: G.A.R. button, approx. 1.5 in. dia., bearing the maker's mark of Whitehead and Hoag Company of Newark, DE. Any pin or fastener has since come loose. Four pieces.
