UNION EIGHTEENTH CORPS BADGE - Rare Civil War-date corps badge from the Union Eighteenth Corps, Army of the James, approx. 1.5 in. square, formed as a brass rounded cross bearing a blue enamel center. The reverse bears a stick pin. Very slight enamel loss, else fine. The lot is sold with a dealer's business card, bearing an inscription on the reverse indicating its purchase from the renowned collection of author and historian J. Duncan Campbell, and offered from an expansive grouping of Civil War corps badges consigned to us, many of which also originate from Campbell's collection. The XVIII Corps served in multiple notable battles, including the Siege of Petersburg, the Siege of Richmond, the Battle of Cold Harbor, and the Appomattox Campaign. The Army of the James was also present at Lee's surrender of the Army of Northern Virginia at Appomattox Court House.
