WILLIAM PRESTON - (1816 - 1887) Confederate brigadier general who led a brigade at Corinth, Vicksburg and Chickamauga. War-date L.S. as brigadier general, 1p. 4to., 'Head Quarters Breckinridge Div'n', Tullahoma, March 2, 1863, to his chief of staff advising that he 'has the honor' to submit the names of three men who 'understand the manufacturing of sieves for sifting corn meal'. Preston adds a signed endorsement again on the verso of the document. Fine condition.
