WILLIAM MONTAGUE BROWNE - (1823-1883) Shortly-serving Acting Secretary of State for the Confederacy, and a temporary brigadier general in the Confederate Army. Bold black ink signature 'Wm. M. Browne' cut from a document, also bearing his hand-inked title: 'Secretary of State'. Mounted, then laminated. Quite rare, as Browne only served as Secretary of State for one month.
