WILLIAM JOSEPH HARDEE - (1815 - 1873) Confederate lieutenant general who led his corps at Shiloh and Atlanta, and attempted to halt Sherman's March to the Sea. Black ink signature on a 4.5 in. x 1.5 in. slip, adding: 'Lt. 2d Dragoons'. Hardee was commissioned a second lieutenant in the 2nd U.S. Dragoons in 1838 - immediately after his graduation from West Point and decades before the establishment of the Confederacy. Tipped to a sheet of white paper, fine condition.
