MUNFORD - (1831 - 1918) Confederate brigadier general who succeeded Turner Ashby under Jackson, and was engaged in many of the decisive battles of the war, including Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, and Appomattox. Apparent war-date A.L.S. 'Thomas T. Munford Brig. Genl. A.N.V.', 1p. 8vo., [Alabama, n.d.], in part: '...Your letter asking for my autograph as a Confederate [?] by the office of the A.N.V. has been forwarded to me out here, as you are a stranger to me..' Glue stain with small interior tera at center, with a small hole and tear at top-left, still good to very good.
