ROBERT TOOMBS - (1810 - 1885) Confederate Secretary of State and Brigadier General whose brigade held the stone bridge at Antietam. A.L.S., 1p., 8vo., [n.p.], May 17, 1880, to an unknown individual, in part: '...I have no photograph taken at or about the time, I was a member of J[efferson]. Davis' cabinet, the last ones I know of I think are in the home of A[lexander] Stephens and was used in 'war amongst the states'...' Scattered stains, very good.
