JOHN DOBY KENNEDY - (1840-1896) Confederate general during the American Civil War, as well as a post-war planter, attorney, politician, and the 57th Lieutenant Governor of South Carolina serving under Governor Johnson Hagood. A.L.S. 'J. D. Kennedy' on his legal letterhead, Camden, SC, Feb. 13, 1895, to an individual from New York. In part: 'If I had a photograph of myself in uniform I never knew it...the only one I had was damaged in a fire some years ago...' File holes at left, typical folds, else fine.
