HENRY A. WISE - (1806 - 1876) Confederate brigadier general and Governor of Virginia who sent John Brown to the gallows. He died never accepting amnesty. Partly-printed D.S. as Governor of Virginia, 1p. folio parchment, Richmond, Jan. 1, 1858, an indenture granting 2,000 acres in Tucker County in modern-day West Virginia to Lair D. Morrall. Wise signs in black ink at the conclusion, beside an affixed Virginia seal. Folds, else very good.
