BRITISH 'REMEMBER THE LUSITANIA!' ENLISTMENT POSTER
Excellent British World War I enlistment poster, 29 x 19 in. (sight), boldly headlined 'Remember the 'Lusitania' and bearing an extremely anti-German jury's verdict after the sinking of the vessel, in part: 'that the said deceased died...to the sinking of the R.M.S. Lusitania by a torpedo fired without warning from a German submarine...this appalling crime was contrary to...the conventions of all civilized nations, and we therefore charge...the government of Germany...with the crime of wilful [sic] and wholesale murder'. The conclusion pleads the reader: 'It is YOUR duty to take up the sword of justice to avenge this devil's work...ENLIST TO-DAY'. The lower-left corner bears the publication line of the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee and the Poster Number 92, while the lower-right corner bears the printing line of A. White & Company of London. Matted and framed to a total size of 26 x 36.25 in. Very light offsetting at center, two light central folds, else very good condition.
