JAPANESE 'GOOD LUCK' FLAG
Fine example of a Japanese soldier's 'good luck' flag, 27.5 x 33 in., unusually constructed of white wool bunting with a red wool 'hinomaru' sun symbol sewn into a cutout at center. The white field is liberally covered with black ink kanji inscriptions, including the phrases 'Succession of Victory' and 'One Thousand Peoples' Power', as well as the signatures of numerous family members and other friends and acquaintances, identifiable by repeated family names. A large red ink 'chop' stamp is visible at one corner. Two corners are fitted with disintegrating cloth protectors securing cord ties. Shows a few spots of slight soiling, else very good to fine.
