HEINRICH HOFFMANN PRESS PHOTOGRAPHS (14)
Fine lot of 14 press photographs of top Nazi officials and military, all all 5 x 7 in. and back-stamped by the studios of Heinrich Hoffmann, and most bearing captions. According to our consignor, these photos were discovered at the courthouse in Nuremberg during the construction of the courtroom, by his father ROBERT G. STEPHENS, JR. (1913-2003). Stephens served on the staff of Robert H. Jackson, the U.S. Supreme Court Justice that served as the chief prosecutor for the United States during the Nuremberg War Crimes Trials. Stephens had lived in Germany prior to the outbreak of the war, and later served in the O.S.S. under William J. Donovan. Images include: Goring, Seyss-Inquart, Rosenberg, Keitel, Oshima, Meissner, Ley, Funk, and others. All bear file holes at one edge, some bear marginal ink notes identifying the individuals pictured. Good possibility these were used in researching charges levied against the major war criminals.
