Bidspirit auction | GERD VON RUNDSTEDT

GERD VON RUNDSTEDT - (1875 - 1953) German field marshal who led the blitzkrieg attack on France, seizing the country within two weeks, defeated by Allied forces in Normandy and in the desperate Battle of the Bulge. War-date A.L.S. 'Gerd' and also signing 'von Rundstedt' in the return address area and the address (mailed to his wife), written on both sides of a Feldpost correspondence postcard. Feb. 9, 1941. The general's scrawl is, as always, nearly impossible for us to decipher. However, this letter falls in the period after the fall of France and during planning for Barbarossa. Fine. Sold with a Hoffmann postcard portrait of the general, inscribed and signed by his widow on verso. Two pieces.
