GALEAZZO CIANO - (1903 - 1944) Italian politician and son-in-law of Benito Mussolini, Minister of Foreign Affairs who later helped force Mussolini's resignation. Executed by the Nazis and fascist sympathizers. Excellent S.P., a formal portrait in uniform, 9.5 x 12.5 b/w, boldly signed in full at bottom, and dated at top: 'Rome November XVI' (1937). The photo is signed by the photographer as well. In custom cloth case with two repro photographs of Ciani before and after his execution, and a period image of him receiving an award from Adolf Hitler. The year before, Ciano had returned to Italy from his 'heroic' service in Ethiopia, and only a few months earlier, he had planned and executed the murders of anti-fascists Carlo and Nello Rosselli.
