FRANCOIS DARLAN - (1881 - 1942) French naval officer, Admiral of the Fleet, and a major figure of the Vichy regime. Compelled by the American and British to comply, he turned over French forces in North Africa in exchange for a position as head of the French administration. Assassinated by a monarchist. Exceedingly rare S.P., 3.5 x 5.5 in. glossy b/w, a photo postcard bearing a chest, up portrait of Darlan in uniform, boldly signed 'F. Darlan' in black ink on the verso. Fine.
