ERWIN ROMMEL - (1891 - 1944) German field marshall whose Afrika Corps threw back repeated British and American assaults in North Africa, later he defended Normandy and ultimately was forced to commit suicide due to his implication in the Hitler bomb plot. War-date D.S. as 'Generaloberst und Oberbefelhshaber fer Panzerarmee Afrika', 2pp. 4to., [North Africa], May 8 [n.y., likely 1941], a list of 16 men from 'Nachschub-Kol.-Abt (mot) 902)' to be awarded the War Merit Cross Second Class, with Swords. File holes in one blank margin, other fine with Rommel's signature in dark pencil, as was his custom.
